Filming has wrapped on season two of Spinners, a co-production between African streaming service Showmax and France's Canal+, shot on location in South Africa.

The eight part season two is produced by Joachim Landau for Federation Middle East Africa & Caribbean and co-produced by Ramadan Suleman, with local co-production company Natives at Large, created by Locarno, Amiens and FESPACO winner Suleman, a South African full-service film and TV production outfit.

Returning as showrunner and co-creator is Benjamin Hoffman, with Jaco Bouwer directing; writers are Matthew Jankes and Sean Steinberg.

Cantona James and Chelsea Thomas reprise their leading roles, while Brendon Daniels and Dillon Windvogel also return.

The new cast for season two includes Clementine Mosimane as matriarch of the Maseko crime family, Mondli Makhoba as her bodyguard, and Luyanda Zwane and Aphiwe Mkefe as her children.

The series takes place two years after Ethan escapes the violent grip of gang life, and along with his friends have become spinning stars in the big city. But an ambush, orchestrated by Ethan’s old gang, shatters their peace. Desperate, Ethan turns to the Maseko clan for help but their protection comes at a heavy cost.

Since 2018, Canal+ has produced 35 Canal+ original TV series with African talent in 11 different African countries, including Invisibles, Agent, Cacao, Mami Wata, Eki, Or Blanc, Niabla, Ewusu, and Lakantane.
