Danish Production Incentive Scheme backs seven projects in first round

The first Danish Production Incentive Scheme has awarded a total of 56.3m DKK ($8.6m) to seven productions.

Productions include Nikolaj Arcel’s My Fairytale Life, a biopic of Danish writing legend Hans Christian Andersen, which receives 10.8m DKK ($1.7m). The film is in pre-production for Zentropa, with Casper Kjaer Jensen to play the lead role.

Five of the productions have been awarded under the Live Action Scheme, with two under the Animated Films and Series Scheme – one animated feature and one animated series.

The biggest single award is to Danish series Agenten der ikke var [translation: The Agent Who Wasn’t There], produced by Sam Productions, which receives 16.7m DKK ($2.6m)

The scheme, which opened in March, received 31 applications. A second application round for 2026 will open in late August, with an expected deadline of September 24.

Eligible productions can receive a reimbursement of 25% of qualifying production costs spent in Denmark, with a per-production cap of 20m DKK ($3.1m).

The Live Action Scheme has an annual budget of 100m DKK ($15.3m), with the Animated Films and Series scheme budgeted at 25m DKK ($3.8m).
