Wakefield in West Yorkshire is set to have a dedicated film office, with the launch taking place tonight, 17 September, at the city’s Production Park Studios.
Film Wakefield has been created by a steering group, including Wakefield Council, Production Park Studios, Creative Wakefield, David Clayton of prop hire company Policelot and other key stakeholders in the district.
The office’s key remit will be to attract filming activity to the area, thus increasing inward investment and economic growth while nurturing a sustainable screen-sector ecosystem, such as advocating training for skills development and training pathways for local people. Film Wakefield will be supported by Wakefield Council.
Production Park, which recently opened two new sound stages, has already boosted Wakefield’s film-friendly profile, having hosted full shooting on the Emmy-winning Adolescence between March and September 2024.
The studio complex is also hosting the semi-final and final of ITV shiny-floor show The Voice this autumn, with Studio 005 housing an audience of around 500 people and Studio 001 also being used as a main production area.
