Shoot underway for Ireland-Portugal series 'Ar Ais Arís' from Tailored Films

Production is underway in Connemara in the west of Ireland on Irish-Portuguese mystery drama series Ar Ais Arís.

Filming takes places across the landscapes of Irish-speaking Connemara and the city of Évora in Portugal.

Julianne Forde at Ireland’s Tailored Films produces alongside Nuno Bernardo of Portugal’s beActive Entertainment with Heather Higgins and Ivan McMahon’s Galway-based Éiru Films.

The eight-part series is in both the Irish and Portuguese languages and follows a group of young friends whose lives are transformed when a mysterious girl from the past suddenly appears in present-day Connemara. As they race to help her return to her own time, they embark on an unforgettable adventure spanning time, generations and two countries.

Cast includes Portuguese actors João Jesus and Carolina Carvalho, alongside Irish talent Macdara Ó Fátharta, Michelle Ní Fátharta, Jeaic Breathnach, Róisín Murphy and Jeaic Ó Scanláin.

It was commissioned in Ireland by Irish-langauge public service broadcaster TG4 and will be broadcast on its channel, Cúla4. TG4 also backed Oscar-nominated The Quiet Girl. 

Ar Ais Arís was supported in development by Creative Europe Media and funded by TG4, Coimisiún na Meán, Screen Ireland, NOS Audiovisuais, ICA (Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual) and PIC Portugal.
