Renowned Hong Kong action filmmaker Johnnie To has been location scouting in Sapporo, Japan for his next feature.
Speaking to Hokkaido Shinbun newspaper, To said: "Hokkaido's diverse landscapes inspire creativity and provide original backdrops that help convey various story elements. I'm sure there will be other directors like me who choose Hokkaido as the setting for their films."
He added: "Hokkaido's four seasons, which change dramatically, enhance the story. That's why I film in Hokkaido."
To is reportedly visiting areas in other areas Hokkaido, including tourist attractions such as Odori Park, Susukino, Furano and Niseko.
According to Hokkaido Shinbun, To told Sapporo Mayor Katsuhiro Akimoto: "I want to spread the word about Hokkaido and Sapporo to the world through movies."
At a trip to Sapporo city hall on February 3, he commented: "I'm happy to be able to film in Hokkaido, where the snow is so beautiful. I hope I can give the movie as a gift to all my fans."
