Japan's Nippon TV and South Korea's CJ ENM have entered a co-production partnership on the upcoming cross-cultural romantic comedy drama series Merry Berry Love (working title).
The series follows a down-on-his-luck spatial designer and a strawberry farmer as they find love on a remote Japanese island.
Filming is currently underway in South Korea and Japan.
Scheduled to air on Nippon TV in 2026, the drama will also be available for global streaming on Disney+, as part of the strategic collaboration between Nippon Television Holdings, Inc. and The Walt Disney Company (Japan).
Starring The Manipulated's Ji Chang Wook of South Korea as spatial designer Lee Yubin, and Japan's Mio Imada, known for her work on Tokyo Revengers, as strawberry farmer Karin Shirahama, Merry Berry Love is directed by Semantic Error's Kim Soojung and written by Divorce Insurance's Lee Jaeyoon.
The series is developed and produced by CJ ENM and co-produced by Nippon TV.
Producers from both countries recently spoke at the Tokyo International Film Festival about the rising need for co-productions between the two regions.
