Apple TV+ show Severance leads the pack on 27 nods as the TV Academy’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, July 15.

In a strong outing for new shows, favourites heading into Tuesday’s announcements included HBO Max’s The Penguin, which earned 24 nods; and the first season of Apple TV+ comedy The Studio and the third season of HBO Max’s The White Lotus on 23 nominations each. In fact, The Studio tied the record set by The Bear last year for the most nominations in a single year in the comedy category.

Netflix’s Adolescence earned 13 nods including outstanding limited or anthology series. Adolescence competes with The Penguin in a limited or anthology series category, with Netflix’s Black MirrorMonsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, and FX’s Dying For Sex.

The Penguin nabbed a leading 13 craft nominations, across costumes, production design, cinematography and more.

Severance also secured multiple craft nominations in cinematography, production design, and choreography.

The ceremony will take place on September 14 in Los Angeles. Eligible shows must have aired between June 2024 and May 2025. At last year’s Emmys ceremony, FX’s Shogun won best drama, Max’s (as the streamer was then called) Hacks won best comedy, and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer was named best limited or anthology series.
