Paramount Pictures and HYBE America will begin production on an untitled K-pop film in South Korea this September starring Kpop Demon Hunters Ji-young Yoo.
Benson Lee will direct the film, which follows a Korean-American girl who participates in a televised audition program, against her family’s wishes, with the dream of becoming a K-pop girl group member.
It is rumoured to be the first American studio film shot entirely in South Korea, following in the footsteps of Amazon Prime Video's upcoming Butterfly series, also shot wholly in South Korea.
Lee’s previous credits include 2015's Seoul Searching for Netflix which played at Sundance. The film is written by Eileen Shim, whose credits include HBO's House Of The Dragon.
Joining Yoo is American K-pop singer and actor Eric Nam, who will voice Aang in Paramount's upcoming The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender film.
HYBE America’s president of film and TV, James Shin, and former CEO Scooter Braun, produce alongside executive producers Joshua Bearman, John Zaozirny, and Scott Manson from Epic Magazine.
The film is set to be released in February 2027.
