Production has begun in London on the second season of Sweetpea, as Friday Night Dinner’s Tamsin Greig and Overcompensating’s Rish Shah join returning star Ella Purnell.
The second season will follow Rhiannon and her increasing kill list as she navigates suspicious peers, work promotions, an attractive rebound and a copycat killer. Shah is cast as the primary romantic interest, whilst Greig stars as ex-boyfriend AJ’s mother.
Other joining cast members include Greig’s fellow Riot Women star Taj Atwal, taking up the role of Rhiannon’s authoritative new boss. Heartstopper’s Jenny Walser plays new devoted friend Daisy, with returning cast members including Downton Abbey’s Jeremy Swift and Big Boys’ Jon Pointing.
Production is led by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios. Sweetpea is fanboy’s first project.
Executive producers are Patrick Walters for fanboy as well as Helen Gregory, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman for See-Saw Films. Purnell and season one director Ella Jones will also join the team as executive producers, alongside Kirstie Swain, who adapted the series from C.J. Skuse’s YA novel of the same name.
Jones is set to direct episodes one, five and six, with How to Build a Girl’s Coky Giedroyc directing two, three and four. Series writers are Selina Lim, Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan and Laura Jayne Tunbridge.
