Rob Connolly's Shiver is one of the 46 projects to receive funding from Screen Australia, with production taking place in Antarctica, the first Australian project to do so.
Based on Nikki Gemmell’s novel, the adaptation follows the transformation of a young journalist as she ventures into Antarctica. It will be produced by Liz Kearney whose credits include Memoir of a Snail and Kate Laurie, alongside Connolly.
Shiver received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with VicScreen, with support from Minderoo Pictures. International sales are being handled by HanWay.
Australian and Canadian co-production Written in the Stars, also received funding. Based on Su Dharmapala’s novel The Wedding Season, it is adapted for screen by Menik Gooneratne who also leads the all-South Asian cast. Fawzia Mirza directs, producers are by Leanne Tonkes, Andria Wilson Mirza, Melissa Russo, Jenni Tosi, Marc Tetreault, and Jason Levangie.
Further projects to receive some of the total $12.8m in funding include Bad Company from Guesswork Television, the six-part series The Killings: Parrish Station from Helium Pictures for Stan, 2 Moons from director Fadia Abboud in partnership with Powerhouse Parramatta, and the six-part series Florence from Hoodlum Entertainment.
